Salt Lake FantasyCon / WesterCon

I had a great time with the WordFire gang in Salt Lake, attending both WesterCon 67 and FantasyCon. The only downside was that I didn’t get to go see the fireworks with my boy.  (He went with his grandparents, and told me with delight that it was “pretty loud.”)

On Thursday, David Farland and I co-hosted a Meet The Author event, which was lots of fun. We chatted with fans about everything from summer movies to international politics. I also got to listen to David pass along some hard-earned wisdom about the creative arts and the business of writing.  Amazing insights. (If you’ve got a story and you want to tell it right, do yourself a favor and check out his workshops.)

Later, I got to participate in a panel discussion on social media, with Jason King and Holli Anderson of Curiousity Quills Press, as well as the incomparable Eric James Stone. It was a great panel for me because I really have a lot to learn on this subject. By the way, if you have a comment, feel free to find me on Twitter and educate my sorry self.

Friday morning, David Boop did me a solid and got me onto his panel about media, writing, and tie-ins.  It was a really fascinating discussion, unsurprising given the backgrounds of the panelists: myself, Nathan Shumate of CheapCaffeine.net, Sean Nathan Ricks of The Main Street Gallery, Steve Diamond of Elitist Book Reviews, and of course David, who has written everything from novels to screenplays to comic gunfights. A good time was had by all.

When I wasn’t off at panels, I was selling books at the WordFire booth in the Salt Palace alongside creative powerhouses such as Kevin J. Anderson, Peter J. Wacks, Steven L. And I can’t forget the army of awesome and dedicated volunteers, including: Chris Baxter, Michelle Corsillo, Lissa Woodbury Jensen, Joe Lance, Gama Martinez, Jeannette Sanders, Heidi Wilde, and many more.  Man do I love being part of this team.

We had such an awesome setup that lots of friends dropped by, like Larry Correia, Brandon Sanderson, Dan Wells, and Howard Tayler. Some of these guys might even join us for Salt Lake Comic Con in September. Wow, is that going to be a party! Hope to see you there. :)
